Cartola

Cartola is fast becoming a favorite with us. It’s a swanky little hole-in-the-wall cafe nestled on the corner of NE 7th and Knott, bringing some class to an otherwise abysmal corner of Irvington. A great place to slow down and take a load off.

Although they have a few options to nibble on (cookies, scones, etc), their top priority is the coffee. I always take it as a good sign when you walk into a store that doesn’t dilute its business with too many options. Sort of like how I can’t stand “one stop shops” like Fred Meyer– too many irons in the fire and all that.

On Wednesday we passed around a cherry danish (courtesy of Ben) while enjoying the outdoor seating. I geeked out with all three cameras in my bag– the D300, Rolleiflex and Holga– but obviously the digital shots are all I’m able to share at the moment.

Happy Sunday!

Dinner 5-20-2010

Pizza made with Bob’s Red Mill’s Gluten-Free Pizza Crust Mix.

Toppings in order of appearance: Trader Giotto’s pizza sauce, parmesan, New Zealand White Cheddar, prosciutto, diced tomato, fresh basil, chevre, black pepper and garlic powder.

Normally we make our own cornmeal crust from scratch, but Chris picked this mix up at the store on accident so we decided to try something new. It was super easy to toss together, and better than any GF crust I’ve had at a pizzeria before.

Lunch 5-16-2010

Parmesan-butter fried red potatoes, with sauteed prosciutto, kale and parboiled green beans.

Memory Lane

Last week I finally bit the bullet and ordered a negative scanner. I didn’t get anything too fancy– just an Epson V500– but it’s a purchase I’d been putting off for years. It arrived earlier this afternoon and I’ve been trapped inside my binder of negatives from college ever since!

So far I’ve been skipping around but I intend on getting everything scanned in while I patiently wait for my first rolls from the Rolleiflex and Holga to come back.

We’ve also got a stack of negs from Chris’s trip to Africa some 10 years ago, long before we knew each other, that I can’t wait to share.

This photo is a double exposure from AP&D, a staple in every HSU student’s life.

More to come!

Milk in My Tea

Though I like all of these, I think the second to last one is most successful because the arc of the milk makes the zoomed-in shot a little more interesting and a bit of a different picture altogether.

Anyway, just geeking out with the tripod and my daily cup. :)
