Fifi Lapin for F21

I recently became obsessed over a vest that sold out from Forever21 before I had a chance to buy one. As a result, I’ve been trolling their New Arrivals page every other day in hopes that it’ll come back.

Imagine my surprise last night when I saw that Fifi Lapin is now featured on two F21 tees!

The thought of getting Fifi on a shirt for under $20 makes my heart sing, but I have to admit that I’m a little shocked to see it happening on F21. I love that store for all its cheap goodness, but you’d think the world’s most stylish bunny would be featured in a store that was a bit more high brow.

But Chris, who I somehow managed to reel into a conversation on fashion, said, “Look at it this way: Fifi Lapin isn’t wearing Forever 21. Forever 21 is wearing Fifi Lapin.”

Yeah, okay. That makes me feel a bit better. :P

A Gift from Jessica

I got these in the mail yesterday as a surprise from one of my favorite gals, Ms. Jessica. Back when we both lived in Redding we used to hang like there was no tomorrow (remember when we dropped that jar of alfredo on Lake Boulevard, and there was a stain on the sidewalk for weeks?!).

Sadly, we haven’t actually been face to face since I got married and moved away, so it was extra special to recieve this random gift from her.

Anyway, she bought the earrings from this amazing Etsy shop, Shmuzz, who specializes in “jewelry designs from the road less traveled.”

What really got me hooked was the fact that the artist doesn’t stop at Mario Bros. & Zelda themed jewelry. Lovingly beaded earrings from Earthbound and Secret of Mana– photographed in front of original SNES cartridges– prove that this girl isn’t trying to profit off the video game niche, she’s just as addicted as the rest of us.

Shmuzz’s video game inspired creations go for $15-$20. I’ve been wearing my Yoshi ones since I got ‘em and can’t wait to get some more. And, of course, they accessorize with my tattoos oh so well ;)

Thanks Jess!

Exactly

I am in l-o-v-e with these vases and cups from White Forest Pottery. They’re exactly what I have in mind when I envision the sort of accents and small touches that would be hanging around my dream home. I mean, how cute is that spoon that comes with the cream/sugar set?

Unfortunately, these small touches come at a big price. Thankfully, dreaming is free.

Fashionably Functional

I fear I’m turning into a bore; exciting clothes just don’t excite me like they used to!

All of my cutesy prints and fancy things are slowly being swapped out for plain tops and jeans. These days all I want to do is hang under the radar and blend in with the crowd, instead of stand out from it.

Forever21 was the beginning of the end for me. It’s my one-stop shop for cheap-as-free basics and quirky accessories. The mint tee (above) is the best! I also really appreciate that it’s a scoop neck because many t-shirt collars feel like borderline strangulation. I’m pretty sure I could live in long, plain-colored tees for the rest of my life, if that thought doesn’t depress Chris too much!

The occasional accent of color or texture here or there is all I really need to be happy anymore. Anything beyond that just makes me feel goofy. I’m starting to realize that there is a very fine line between fashion and function, and just how much I wanna walk that line.

Anyone else ever feel this way? I must be growing up.

This suspender skirt is the perfect example of a marriage between simplicity and spunky. All I’d need to complete the outfit is a boring top and cute sandals.

My thirst for shoes, however, will never die. Luckily, these forest green suede flats are not available in my size.

And, after all that moaning about turning an apathetic eye to my wardrobe, I have to say I really dig this dress. I don’t think I’ve ever owned anything so crazy and out there in my life, but I want it. Thank God it’s not available in my size, either!

Phew!

It’s a Girl Thing, I Guess

After seeing this amazing series of bags and clutches by Marimekko (via SeeSaw Designs), I set out on a search for more, and I think I’m in love!

I know this completely contradicts everything I’ve been saying the last week about purses, but how awesome is this clutch? It’s like leopard print meets Kindergarten finger painting meets Lisa Frank meets a bag of Skittles (taste the rainbow!).

It also comes in a black/white scheme, but $80 is way too rich for the blood of a girl spending this summer living with her MIL. I may be willing to dole out the $50 for an umbrella with the same print, though. I mean, hey! I am moving to Portland this year!

Plus, I was always taught that you shouldn’t pay for something you could make yourself. Do I hear a super awesome DIY project calling? You could easily hand paint or screenprint something like this onto canvas and sew from there.
